Renault Megane Coupe Rally

Guys,
I am building a Rally version of the Renault Megane coupe, I got the Fujimi kit that came with the Welsh Rally decl set, so that is not a problem, but I am going to have to scratch-build the entire interior.
If any of you know where I could find some reference photos for this car, meaning any Renault Megane Rally car, either factory or kit car, I would be greatful.
I am considering building a Group N interior to cut some corners, but I still need photos for anything and everything else.
Thanks in Advance

Ray

Hi,

I don't have reference pictures but I know Renaissance did an trans kit for the Megane and some Resin Rally kits as well. The trans kit however is to do a racing version. You might want to check these kits out on grandprixmodels through the link I've included.

Ray, I'm fairly certain that the Megane was not rallied in the Group N class (someone correct me if im wrong???) it's a kit car!!!

For you to build the kit as it is out of the box, it will be incorrect as it needs the wide body kit. This is one i started a few years back using the MRM transkit, it was shelved after screwing up one of the large decals on one side with too much decal solution. I've been trying to get hold of a replacement set for ages but to no luck.

Fujimi did however send me the Diac version decals as a replacement coz thats all they had, seen in pic.

Ray i have a couple of pics, but they are hard to find PM me your email add and i'll send them to you, but in the mean time have a look at this 1/43 build report coz i think its very useful http://mapage.noos.fr/katari/megane.htm

Also, how would you feel about swapping decals??? I always wanted to make the GB version but settled for the Spanish version as that was all there was. Now i can only make the Tour de Course (blue) version

Chris,
I know it was never raced as a group N, it was just the only way I could think of building it, since Fujimi supply the rally decals with a standard Megane coupe kit.
I never knew there was a transkit available, can you tell me where I would get it? How involved would it be too, and what did it include?
I don't know about swapping the decals, you have me in a quandry there, can I think about it and let you know.
Here is a picture of the kit I have so you can get an idea of what the decals are, they are the Welsh Rally 1996 markings.

Your model looks really good though, it's a pity the decals went bad on you, I hope I can get mine to look anywhere near that.
I will PM my e-mail address to you, thanks for sharing the pictures, I spent forever searching and only came out with 1.
Thanks for your help Chris.

Daggerlee,
Sure is buddy, I got it off EBay and it was advertised as a rally car, with the box photo conveniently 'missing' that text.....when I received it I was kinda pissed, but the seller had 'disappeared' so I decided to make the best of a bad situation. After all, I got the basic kit and it has a nice decal set, so why not try to make a rally car out of it?
I haven't bought another thing off Ebay since either......learned my lesson....

I got my transkit from MRM, its quite good and i found it easy to fit. It was the first transkit i ever did too. I would certainly advise getting one coz it will be a shame for you to build it as Fujimi intended.

Here's a pic of their kit at a show.

Alternatively you could try scratchbuilding your own like this guy Those are also the decals i now have but don't worry about a swap if you prefer to keep the GB one's. In all honesty i cant see myself returning to this for a while no matter what decals i have. It will also mean a complete strip of paint

BTW, if you can get hold of the wheels for the Tamiya Corolla, they are a much better match than the fujimi efforts.

Chris,
Thanks for posting that photo, I really can't make out too much though, although I can see the parts.....
I had a look at that site you posted, tried translating it too, I have a rough idea of what he did, but it is only a rough idea.....
You don't plan on making a transkit do you?
Since I am stranded in the US right now, any idea where I could get hold of that transkit, maybe it will be my best chance?
I have Corolla WRC in the closet, so I will compare the wheels, I have some parts to order from Tamiya (RC & Scale model) so perhaps I could throw them into what I order.....
Thanks for your help Chris.....much appreciated.

Hi Freakray,

You can contact MRM on http://www.mrminternationl.co.uk/

I don't know if they'll ship to the US - maybe with DHL or UPS - but you can try. Just send Mike an e-mail with your needs.

Thanks Huudo,
The link didn't work, you left the last 'a' out no big deal, I still got to the site

I will see whether I can get the transkit there.

Thanks for the help guys.

Unhappy

Well, I tried contacting MRM about that 'wonderful' transkit, but I can't get anything out of them, not even a reply.....
So I guess I will go my own way on this one and do exactly what I originally intended to....

Ray, if i had thought, i could have picked u one up today. I went to a show and MRM were there, i spoke to Mike Rosser for a while as he has helped me with my stuff. He does indeed have a day job so he only gets time for this in evenings and weekends, i would persevere with your request but if no joy after a while let me know.

It includs all the rally interior in resin.
