Axel nut on 2000 Olds Bravada

I replaced a couple of balljoints and a hub on my Bravada. All went great until I tried to get the axel nut to go back on.

For the life of me I couldn't get it to thread on correctly. I went this morning and bought two new ones and tried one of them and still can't get it on. I have screwed up the threads on both trying to get them to thread on.

I have one more new one, but I'm afraid I'll just screw it up too if I try to thread it on. Any ideas? The threads on the axel look good to me.

You might need to remove the hub and take a small file and fix the threads on the axle shaft....particularily the start of the thread. Good light and maybe some reading glasses to see very close.

Re: Axel nut on 2000 Olds Bravada

I actually ended up buying a new axle. Once I got the new axle home I was feeling a little more confident and not caring as much if I did further damage to the old one, so I took a grinder and ground off the first 4 threads on the old axle. I then chased a steel wire brush aorund the threads to get any debri out. Low and behold the nut threaded right on! So I'm taking the new axle back today.

Thanks for the input!

Good resourcefulness, be sure you have some thread showing after tightening the nut for maximum retainment.
