1994 1500 Front End Alignment Question
Hey Guys,
I have a 1994 c/k 1500 that I bought used about 2 years ago. I took it up to Firestone today to have the front end alignment done because it's pulling to the left and wearing outside of the right front tire. They told me it would be 65.00. They called me and said that there were knockouts that had to be taken out in order to adjust the camber/caster and that it would now be 370.00!!! This is a knock around truck not my primary vehicle. So, I picked it up and drove down to the dealer. They verified the knockouts deal and quoted me 160.00. My questuion is: Can I take care of the knockouts myself or am I stuck to the dealer? Thanks in advance, WOD288 |

Re: 1994 1500 Front End Alignment Question
First thing is that the camber kit is available from Moog for around 20 dollars per side (see www.rockauto.com - part number is K6302) so there is no need to get this part from the dealer. Any parts store that carries Moog can get the part.
Second thing. There is no need to do both sides unless both sides require it. There is a special tool that removes the knock outs. You can still pop them out yourself but it can be some work. The tool really helps but is not necessary. The upper control arm has to be unbolted to install the kit. This can easily be done on the alignment rack but the lower control arm needs to be supported due to the torsion bar. If you are not comfortable doing this, I would find an independant front end shop to do the work. They are usually more reasonable than the chain stores. Good Luck, //2000CAYukon |
