95 lumina brake lights out

Hey guys, just found your site. I just bought a 95 lumina with 215000 miles on a 3.1. Looks great in and out, but no break lights, the center brake light is the only one that works. I have changed bulbs and checked fuzes. any sugestions?

Welcome to AF. Check for 12v in and out of the stop lite switch then do the same at the signal switch connector bottom of column, suspect signal switch, assuming the bulbs and grounds in the lamps are ok.

Yeah as maxwedge said, the multifunction/signal switch on the column is most likely the problem. They were a common problem on the '95's.

Re: 95 lumina brake lights out

It's 99% assured it's the turn signal/multifunction switch. All power to the main taillamps is routed through it but the center mount stoplamp isn't. There are two different ones depending if your car has the steering wheel accessory controls or not, so be sure to get the right one. The steering wheel and air bag has to be removed to change it, so if you're not comfortable working around an airbag, take it somewhere.
