Red face Parking brake release on caliper

* * * H E L P * * *
I'm working on my son's '03 Mazda6 rear brakes and I notice the parking mechanism is integrated on the caliper, is in the released position and it would not let me bottom-in the piston into the caliper bore, how do I defeat that? The car has no ABS, which made me get into replacing the pads myself. Any help would be gratly appreciated. I could not find the same question posted on previous threads.
