McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

One and all, I need your opinion. Following the utterly tragic events of the weekend I have thought about setting up another group build.

My idea is a Colin McRae / Richard Burns / Michael 'Beef' Park tribute group build. This may be a non-starter as Im sure many of us have already built some if not all of the cars driven/co-driven by these guys, however I am also sure that as alot of us have a big stash of kits it is also safe to presume that at least of one or more of the them is in our 'to do' piles. I hope none of you think that Im being over the top or dramatic buy suggesting this, however I have not built any of their cars and would just think it would be a small gesture as a thankyou to these guys who have given Britain two World Champions and in turn made us Brits proud!

So what do you all think. I will set up the thread and list all of the builds here. Even if it doesnt take off Im putting on hold my 312B and Im going to build two of their cars together (McRae's 2001 Scooby & Burns' 2003 Pug 206).

I have done a little digging and these are the WRC cars I can find which could be entered into the Group Build as follows (if I miss any please let me know and I will add to the list), their are also the National Rally Championship cars and also Paris-Dakar cars which could be included and also in the McRae's case a Le Mans 24hr car too:

Michael Park (with Markko Märtin):
2000 Toyota Corolla
2001 Subaru Imprezza
2002 Ford Focus
2003 Ford Focus
2004 Ford Focus
2005 Peugeot 307

Colin McRae (with Derek Ringer upto 1996 and then Nicky Grist):
1989 Ford Sierra Cosworth
1993 Subaru Legacy
1994 Subaru Imprezza
1995 Subaru Imprezza (WRC World Champion)
1996 Subaru Imprezza
1997 Subaru Imprezza
1998 Subaru Imprezza
1999 Ford Focus
2000 Ford Focus
2001 Ford Focus
2002 Ford Focus
2003 Citroen Xsara
2005 Skoda
2006 Citroen Xsara & Subaru Imprezza (USA Rally)

Richard Burns (with Robert Reid):
1996 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III
1998 Mitsubishi Carisma GT Evo IV
1999 Subaru Imprezza
2000 Subaru Imprezza
2001 Subaru Imprezza (WRC World Champion)
2002 Peugeot 206
2003 Peugeot 206

So there you go, see what you think. It would be great if a few of us got on board however I know time is precious and we already have the Ferrari 60th Anniv Build running but let me know you all think.

I love the id. The biggest problem with a group build is to find a decent subject and this is brilliant tought.
I've never build a rally car, so if it goes trough, I'll probably join the build. You've got my vote for the next group build, and I think a lot of people will join it.

I think this is a good idea and a great way to pay tribute to those rally heroes. I'm in, in what ever way this group build takes place. I had the joy of seeing Martin/Park win Rally Mexico. When Hasegawa made the kit for Finland I bought two of them so I can make the conversion.

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

1995 was pre-WRC.

1994 was the first year of the Impreza.

You missed the fact the Colin also drove for Skoda in 2005 for a limited number of rallies.

You have missed several of Richard's drives and have them mixed up too.
He drove the Evo.V and Evo. IV in 1998.
2002 Richard was with Peugeot.

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

Sean, I own a lot of scooby to do since I love them, from the Legacy to the '05 machine, but I'm not 100% with the idea. It's sad. I guess you like to remember those guys in action, I prefere to remember Colin or Richard's smile and wait a bit to mount my scoobies.

Anyway I'll follow you guys.

ah Freakray, yes - thanks for your encouragements there. I have corrected my errors and shall send myself to the detention room where no doubt I shall get a damn good thrashing from the headmaster...

but anyway let's get back to the point of the thread, are you in - do you think its a good idea?

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

I dunno, I may be with Gio on this. I'm certainly planning a build of at least one of Colin's cars, but it does seem a bit soon for my start. It is of course a matter of personal taste and choice, but I'd be given to let some time pass first.

You can add McRae's appearence in an '06 Xsara as well.

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

Well if one gets picky, McRae also drove a 2006 Xsara when Loeb got a shoulder issue. I don't have the exact vehicle he used to cut the grass at his home though

(edit) Ok MPWR had this first!

from the bbc news pages when Colin ran in the American Rally in Los Angeles (August 2006).

If ever a car can be made to dance on tiptoes:

and his other company car at Le Mans

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

Well, I can understand those who think it's too much early to build a Colin's/Beef's/Richard's car...
But if we intend to pay homage to them, what better way could it be...??
it's not a celebration, it's a tribute.

I've not chosen a car yet, but I will be part of it.
If I can find some time and energy, I may try to build one 1/43 model for each of the three plus one 1/24.

Concerning Colin, you can also add his one-shot in "Brit' Nascar" (?? sorry I can't remember this serie's name any more...) but I don't know which car he drove.

Thanks Sean for the idea, I think it's a fair idea and return to the passion they put in us.

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

If I am to build a McRae car, I will build his 1992 season Rally Sweden Legacy.

For Richard I would build his Safari Rally winning Evo.IV.

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

Ok Andy: since we two are the only VS the build, I guess we'll start our kind "very little group" build

November 1 is too much in theme with our friends GB , may be december 1 the announcement? too late?

I'll heard some BMW thunder's echo coming.......

Re: McRae/Burns/Park Group Build - do you fancy it?

It's a great idea Sean.If I can muster the time I would certainly build something.I would love to build Colin's 1992 Subaru Legacy in the blue and white Rothmans colours or Richard's Subaru Legacy from the 1993 Network Q Rally and in the case of Markko Martin and Michael Park it would have to be the Peugeot 307 for sure.
