Re: Headers... tell me which set to buy.

dont buy a set of 700 dollar headers for your truck. Im assuming that it is all stock except for maybe the exhaust and intake, which basically is the same as stock. The headers will help, but dont pay a ton for them unless you have a matching cam and cylinder heads setup that needs that good of a header. the higher cost is i believe just for the finish, so if you are in a show maybe get the good ones, but some that have a crap paint job will do just as good as the expensive ones, maybe for 500 bucks less also.

Re: Headers... tell me which set to buy.

I looked long and hard for headers to put on the 383 in my '90 Suburban. Settled on stainless steel Edelbrock shortys with the powdered titanium finish (Ti-Tec). About $350.

Indestructible finish unaffected by heat, water, chemicals. I find carb cleaner and a paper towel cleans 'em up fine (make sure they're COOL first!).

Like any headers, keeping them sealed is a challenge. Finally used Stage 8 locking bolts ($40)at the heads and double-nutted the collector bolts, except one which had too-tight clearance. This one I safety-wired.

Lovely harmonics through the 3" single exhaust and Gibson muffler at about 70 on the Interstate!

i agree with sub.
those stainless edelbrock shorty's with ti-tech are the shit, and won't break your parts budget.
the other good thing is that they are in fact short. now you don't have as much to worry about with clearance.

Re: Headers... tell me which set to buy.

Follow-up sealing info. As mentioned before, Stage 8 locking bolts do the job permanently where the header flange meets the head.

But double-nutting and even spo- welding could not keep the collector gaskets tight! They'd always vibrate loose.

Dennis the exhaust tech at Edelbrock sent me the solution. They have collector bolt and nut sets with little spurs on the threads that dig in and really hold!

Happiness is headers that don't leak.
