no respect

I feel bad about griping, having read the previous thread. However I got on here to gripe and here goes. Why is it that people have to be completely disrespectful of other people's property? I take pride in keeping my vehicles clean. I'm very anal about this and it's always MY CAR that gets leaned upon, touched, etc. I'm not one of those guys who shows off the car or tries to look cool...it's a lumina for gosh sakes!! I like my car and that's all that is important. I feel as though I have to park on the other side of the parking lot if I want to stand around with my friends because of this. I spend a lot of time detailing it and keeping it clean and what's the first thing people do? TOUCH IT, lean on it, and show me very little respect. I would like to think that my friends respected me enough to leave it alone!! Just the other night I was standing around with a group of "friends" and I look over and see one of them running his knuckles back and forth over the spoiler. I wanted to ask him to stop, but that would only make him do it more. I encouraged the group to move to another area but when I got home I got to see the damage. One wouldn't think that there would be any "damage" however you must remember that I'm anal. I looked and sure enough there were TONS of swirl marks and scratches on the clearcoat. I immediately got the wax out and buffed it for awhile but with little help. Why why why, must people have no respect???
While I'm on the subject I'd like to also add another complaint...the doors on the car shut very easily; you can gently nudge the door and it will shut. However people get in and SLAM AWAY...I nicely ask them to please not slam the door, but it always happens...over and over. Again it comes back to look bad on me as I have to remind people EVERYTIME they get in/out of the car. I always get the "SORRY" in a sarcastic voice or "it's alright, calm down" Dang it I don't want to calm down, I want people to respect me and my personal property and do something like gently shut a door if I ask politely.
Someone calm me down please

Re: no respect

Here is my advice. Keep in mind that I don't really have any "friends" and I am also quite anal about my ride.

1. Don't give rides. Tell people you are not a taxi service.
2. If they touch your car again, then kick them in the gonads or something. That will help them remember.

Re: no respect

lol...well they are my friends, so I probably shouldn't kick them there. Plus I'm a guy and guys don't generally fight that way!! Just irritates me that people can't respect others. If [for instance] a friend of mine did something stupid that embarrased them and they were annoyed by it, I'm sure they would want me to leave well enough alone and if they asked I would, so how is this any different? Emotions, property...people need to be respected

It's because it's a Lumina and you are you.

Dude, it's a fucking Lumina. A Taurus is better, and that's saying something.

Stop being so precious otherwise you won't have any friends left to lean on your car.

Some people just don't realize that they're messing up your car when they're doing it. To you, your car is your baby. To most other people, a car is just a hunk of metal with wheels.

You and everyone else is a much, much better person than I am.

Everyone has made a good point. However, I'd also like to say that its my belief that if they really were your friends, they still would be considerate enough to respect your wishes and take them seriously, no matter how stupid or funny it may seem to them. Yeah, its a Lumina, but its still yours. Plus it can't possibly be that difficult to remember not to slam a door or lean on a car. Well, if they're potheads then I guess that's different.

Re: no respect

i understand what you're saying about slamming the doors. people slam my trunk ALL THE TIME. this thing is so easy to close, if you leave it close to the top and let it fall it'll close. you actually don't have to push it, and yet people insist on slamming it enough to rock the car.

as for the paint and stuff, i've got a '92 accord, i don't care all that much about keeping it spotless and i lean on my car and stuff, i don't really mind if others lean on it. i can understand though that if you put all that effort into making sure your car was spotless you'd be pissed about marks and whatnot. just tell them nicely, they should understand. if they don't, then just don't offer them rides until they change.

Re: no respect

People slam my doors too. Kind of depends what kind of person they are. If they dont slam it then theyre probably more considerate in general. I dont care if they touch the car, not going to kill it.

Re: no respect

I hate when people touch my car but I never yell at anybody about it. I just whip out the diaper cloth when I get home and wipe off the prints. Fingerprints on windows drive me absolutely crazy

Re: no respect

glad I'm not alone. I haven't yelled at anyone yet. I can handle fingerprints, as they come off easily. The rubbing motion I described is completely unnecessary tho!! Something else they do is act like they're going to hit the car when they park beside me and open the door. Another friend will pull up within inches of the car and turn his tires sharply in the direction of my car, til the tires touch and the proceed to rock my car. Is there any way in which this could be damaging? And since when is a lumina a bad car? hahaha.

Damn, how anal can you get? They do those kind of things because it gets to you. What a bunch of kindergartners, you included. I wish you idiots would start getting obsessed about more humane things rather than ranting about your materialistic crap. Since when is a car worth more than a life of a child in a refugee camp in Darfor? Since when is wiping finger prints off your windows with a diaper more important than helping out at the local food bank? Man, this post is just another reason why a requirment for public service or military service should be mandatory, get over your silly problems and address something of substance and grow up.

Re: no respect

Who said anything about choosing a car over some child in Darfur (not Darfor genius)? We like our cars to stay clean... what a crime. I'm a clean person, so I like my stuff (room, car, clothes) to be clean also. I don't know how you jumped to the conclusion that people like gw84 or myself are inconsiderate to the troubles of the world around us, but you need to reevaluate how you perceive the world around you and step down off that pedestal you've placed yourself upon. Maybe you should devote your time to helping the people in your community rather than waste your time looking for shit to complain about on AF.
