Rear side door Hinge Groan
I have an 01 Tahoe and the rear hinges makes a horrible groan when opening. Especially cold weather but noisy all the time. Does anyone know a fix for this? I have used every kind of grease to lubricate, but has only been a few day fix at best. the door does not sag, I think it is in the link with the spring (if it was a front door). thanks

Re: Rear side door Hinge Groan
The infamous door creak, quite annoying. I will try and give the easy fix that I do,which last for awhile. At the top of the door corner, facing the front door. There is a semi hard rubber tip that contacts the body weather rubber molding when opening and closing. They tend to get dirty. I usually clean the area good and wipe all the rubber coponents with a rag with lithium gease on it. The other that I found was the door edge was contacting the front door plastic protective door strips that I put on, if you have those, clean them. The other, yet a little more time is the hinge itself, but easy to get to. Clean all the area up to the rubber door grommet, lubricate the small inner hinge on the "B" post. Probaly already did this, remove the latch door grommet and spray a lubricant of some sort, wd40,lithium etc, preferbly a non-dirt attracting lubricant, found at bicycle for chains.Try this and no help get back with me and I willl tell you how to access the the inner door to get to the back of the hinge, though it pretty much a close coponent. You may want take the hinge off, easy enough and clean it and lubricate it thourougly. I have never lubricated the upper and lower metal hinges, always been the rubber squeaking..

Re: Rear side door Hinge Groan
Do you have electric windows and door locks? Hopefully electric, a little easier.

Re: Rear side door Hinge Groan
yes electric windows and door locks. I assume I will need to pull the door panel or can it be removed from the outside?

Re: Rear side door Hinge Groan
My 2001 Hoe right rear door is usually the creaker. On the door, open the slide lock to the open position.Gently pry and pop off the slide lock housing. There are two screws on the door panel. There is one at the bottom corner the the plastic insert surrounding the door handle.Remove screw and grently pry and pop out insert, then roate the insert around the handle and remove. The other screw is at bottom corner of door towards the front. The panel should be slightly loose at this point, the panel has straight plastic hooks that fit in the inner door that the panel hangs on. You will need to push panel straight up and off the window edge.Once loose, reach around and unplug electric window. And on the door light that is on the panel. You will need to twist the light socket and remove. Remove panel, peel down plastic covering. There is one torx bolt and two nuts on the inner door hinge. Where the torx bolt, you may need to punch out the retaining pin holdling the hinge strap in order to remove it through the inner door. Look at it thoroughly before removing. Good luck..

Re: Rear side door Hinge Groan
FIXED!!!!!!!!!
I purchased the replacement hinges listed in the TSB and the problem is solved. The doors are now a smooth as can be, also less effort to open. Also a quick repair, 3 screws on the hinge and 2 on door panel lift panel to remove swap hinges and re-attach. If it takes longer the 10 minutes you need also need someone to put gas in it for you. its a snap. hinges were $44 after GM discount. |
