Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement

I recently bought a 01 LeSabre Custom, now with 85k miles. I'm starting to get that "Doesn't go into gear" effect after the car has been parked for a few hours. Put it in drive or reverse, and there's LOTS of slippage, then BANG, it engages and everything's fine. Unitll I park it.

My research led me to reference a TSB about the 1-2, 3-4 Shift Solenoid assembly, which is a pretty cheap part. (Both meanings) Is this something I should consider replacing in the driveway with hand tools, or should I just take it to a pro?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Hello

Welcome to AFs!

Have you checked the fluid level and fluid condition? When was the last time it was changed? The filter could be pluged??? Sorry I don't know if this is a DIY job.

Regards

Dan

Re: Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement

Fluiid looks clean & a nice red. I bought the car from a Saturn Dealer, they may have changed it? Level is perfect.
