Re: hobby shop in taipei

Hey.
Okay, if you're only going into model shops cause they are near:

4th FL 萬年百貨 (Wan Nien dept store) in 西門町(Shi-men Ding) (Wan nien is a landmark so there is no need for the address and Shi-men Ding is a tourist attraction as well), there are two stores on the 4F that specialize in still models (plastic/resin) there are also 2 or 3 other stores that specialize in R/C and die cast, all on the 4th floor. A couple of notes: these places are cheap for model kits. They are very crowded apart from when they open to around 4:30 pm. There are a lot of pick-pockets in Shi-men Ding.

萬品館 MPK http://www.mpk.com.tw/ Located at "台北市延平北路五段311號" #311 Yeng-ping North Road Section 5 Taipei City. 1&2 floors are both theirs. The owner (40ish man) speaks basic English. The 'good' stuff is on the second floor. Notes: Slightly more expensive and less stuff than 萬年 but better layout and more comfortable to 'look around'. To the right of the entrance to the door are kits sold on behalf of customers (might get some OOP's once in a while, and there are half started kits as well(cheap)).

If you have time and are looking for detailing stuff:

ISAM http://www.isamtw.com/ "臺北縣三重市重新路3段101號B1" B1 #101 Chung-Xin RD Section 3, San-chung City, Taipei County. Call the owner at 0937-038431 at least an hour before going. The is more a part-time store for him.I'm not sure if the owner speaks English but I know he visits the WIP-Motorsports section here on AF. His store mainly sells aftermarket stuff. There are a few 1/24 resin kits and some 1/12 plastic kits. He himself, specializes in making 1/43 for customers, around 120-XXX US.
Notes: His store has NO SIGNS what-so-ever. I suggest that you find someone that speaks Mandarin (I'm guessing here that you don't) to go with you. Be prepared to spend at least 1 hour at his place. His stuff isn't well organized but he has some really good stuff. His website sucks, period, his store has a whole lot more. The entrance is actually in an alley, so print out the map on his web-site if you plan to go.

If u want, I can give the ISAM owner a call to see what languages he speaks.
If you don't have a local to take you around. I suggest the MRT to Shi-men Ding (5-10minute walk to Wan-nien) and Taxi to MPK and ISAM.
Ask away if you have any Q's, be happy to answer them for you.

HTH,
Steve
