Replacing front brakes, Which axle do I have?
I have a 91 Ranger XLT 4.0 4X4 and I don't know which axle I have. It is between the dana 28 and 35. Then it asks me for the drive ratio: 3.45 or except 3.45. Does anyone know where i can find this out? This is a very nice truck, it sits higher up than most rangers i have seen so i think it is the 35, it also has some pep to it not as much as my camaro but it gets moving so i think it is the 3.45 but do not know. Gets about 16 MPG. Does the VIN # tell what this could be?
Thanks in advance |

i have a 4x4 too, your getting better gas mileage than me though. On mine there is a tag on the axle housing.

yes, it states axle codes. should have ring dia/ratio beneath it on the tag. may have to wash it with a little brak ecleaner.

Re: Replacing front brakes, Which axle do I have?
the tag is usually located on one of the diff cover bolts. but i've seen them in other places. sometimes they get thrown away. if you can't find one try getting a part number off of the axle hub.

I just took it in and got it fixed. Too much BS to deal with. There was not a tag on the diff. Thanks for your help anyways guys.

Re: Replacing front brakes, Which axle do I have?
i know you already fixed it, but just for reference in the door sill there is an axle code on the label. then you can look up the code in a manual.
