91 New Yorker 3.3L V6 Transmission problem.
Ok, i got a little project car. I put the thread here as the New Yorker and LeBarons have pretty much the same motor i believe, and body stlye, the New Yorker is just the bigger more pretty version of the LeBaron...
But anyway, bought this car for $500 from my parents, afters its been wreaked and raced and torn to hell. The main problems the engine had before i got a hold of it, was that the belt was squeeling, the front motor mount wasnt tightened and the engine was moving way too much, the alternater wouldnt charge the battery, and the oil was black as hell lol. I spent a few hours first cleaning the entire car, including the engine, especially the engine! So now i got a nice new looking pretty engine. I tightened that motor mount down, and it appears to be running completely normal now, even shifts much smoother than before, no warning lights come on, and all guages are normal. However theres an exhaust leak and it sounds loud lol. Now to the transmission problem. While changing the oil i noticed a dripping from the transmission, it dripped right on my arm, and i knew it was tranny fluid, i looked and it appears to be dripping right at the seal. I wiped it off and watched were it came from, and its leaking right at the seal. Now its not leaking very fast, but its still a problem and right now its the only problem really. So, how can i fix this myself? Im not taking this car to a shop. I really hope i dont need to replace the tranny, even though that will pry come up sometime in the future as hard as it was driven. But it shifts just fine. |

Which seal? Torque converter, output shaft or shift linkage.

It was hard to tell from your video but I think it was the torque converter seal. Hard to replace. You need to remove the transmission. If it is only a drip just run it that way. The cooling fans need to work. Check for a bad connection and then test the fans with a jumper wire.

You could just be low on coolent so the tempurture sensor was not in coolent at the time to turn on the fans.

Re: 91 New Yorker 3.3L V6 Transmission problem.
There are 2 temp sensors. 1 for the guage and 1 for the fans. The fans turn on at about 220 f.

With 50/50 anti freeze and a 15 # pressure cap. Other wise lower.
