Revell 97 Corvette Coupe no 2490

Anyone built this or have it in their collection, i just picked it up cheap and was wondering if there was something wrong with it, also just got Mustang Gt350 & Camaro Z28 RS i usually build tamiya and have found the last 2 kits to be good quality for revell, although they will need a bit of putty and sanding but fitment of parts seems good, love the V8's in them. Bob.

I understand it lacks some decals such as the waterfall. Apart from that it looks pretty good with a full engine included.

What are the differences between Revell's 1/25 97, 98 and 99 Corvettes, as well as the latest Z06? They look almost the same to me.

I think they are the same body mold from what i've heard, dunno about the rest though. mine seems to have an indent down the middle of the roof, ( i wonder if they all have that), but it looks like that on the box art to' I've also read some where that the body dosen't sit right on the chassis but i'll have to wait till i build it to find out.

Which coupe did you get? They did the '97 coupe, with the hatchback, and later did the '99 hardtop with the trunk. That kit became the Z06, which is the only Corvette to have the hardtop now-only in '99 was the hardtop a "regular" Corvette. The convertible kits are all basically the same, except they did update the snap kit convertible to 2000 specs, with the newer 5 spoke rims. The Corvette convertible glue kits had the 5 spoke export rims.

The Corvettes haven't changed much since '97, but Revell has done all of the major variations-the '97 hatch (glue and snap), the '97-'99 convertible (glue and snap), the '99 hardtop (glue and pre-decorated LeMans pace car snap), the 2000 convertible (snap kit), and 2001/2002 Z06 (glue and snap). The body proportions are excellent, the only problem is the mold lines around the headlight covers, that area needs careful sanding/polishing and perhaps a bit of rescribing the headlight covers in the corners. The roof "dip" is correct, it's similar to an RX-7 though not as obvious.

The snap kits sit very nicely, even sitting lower in front than the real car. I haven't built the glue kit, but they are okay according to those who have. Just avoid any of the AMT C5 Corvettes, they are junk. Wheels are too small, proportions are off, fit is horrible. Pure JUNK.

I have the 97 coupe hatch, nice lookin car i thought, one of our local cars (holden commodore) uses the same engine, and i'm glad that dip in the roof is meant to be there it had me worried for a while.

I built that kit a while ago as a change of pace. Why I picked black, I don't know, since black can be murder. But all in all, I found the kit to go together rather well, other than the front spoiler causeing stress. It would have been one of my best kits, if I hadn't dropped the rear window during installation, causeing white glue to get on the paint. I left the wheels chrome because I had seen them as aftermarket options, and liked the look... Im usually not into custom stuff unless it's subtle.

So, I'd say it was a good kit. I agree that most AMT kits seem to be "stay away from" items, though I've only built 1 or 2 in my life...

I've already got the 97 coupe, and I was wondering if the 99 hardtop was any different. From the box picture they look identical.

Check out my thread! I built the 97 vette with a Hemi.....The kit was awful....I got a warped body, heavy mold lines and bad fit.
But if you take your time a good replica can b made out of it
