Hello Everyone!

Good Morning everyone. I could not find anything in the forums related to my problem.

I have a 2003 Alero. Sometimes the signals work and sometimes they don't. I can be sitting at the stop sign and the signal is blinking and then it will stop. And then the signals won't work a few times and then I can sit at another light and they things will start working again. Also I have my security light that comes on from time to time. I have had it reset, it acme back on and then I had it analyzed and no codes were present. Then it will stay out for 2 weeks or more. While I love my Alero very much, my husband says that if my car goes in the shop 1 more time (the ignition, and then it would not start) and it had to be towed. Any help would be great, I really want to keep my Kachow car (my daughter says it looks like McQueen)

Thanks again!!

Katrina

Re: Hello Everyone!

I had the same turn signal problem. After replacing the hazard light switch the problem was fixed. Search here for "hazard light switch" and you should find the solution.
As for the security light, join the club. It sounds like your Passlock system may be going bad, just like mine and about everyone elses did. Look here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t454520.html for a discussion of what can be done. Something that I don't think is mentioned that sometimes works is to use a new key (not one made from your old worn key, get one that hasn't been used very much). That will help for a while, until the ignition cylinder wears some more.

Re: Hello Everyone!

Wow, thank you so much, I would have never figured the hazard light switch. I can't find a dang repair manual either (Chilton etc) I am going to have to ebay it. Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and other auto parts dealers don't have one.

Thank you again, I will do a search and hopefully I can repair this thing myself, my mechanic is not cheap. Or perhaps he charges me more because I am female (no pun intended).

Thanks again!!

Re: Hello Everyone!

I have a copy of a GM Service Bulletin that shows how to take the dash apart and replace the hazard light switch. Send me a Private Message with your email and I'll email it to you. Or, if you want, go to your GM dealer and ask for a copy of Service Bulletin 04098A, issued January 2006. It says it applies to 99-02 Aleros, but the procedure is about the same, and you should have no trouble with just basic tools and common sense.
You will need a couple of small flat bladed screwdrivers and a 7MM socket and ratchet. Your car parts store or Walmart or Sears should have them.
Let us know how it goes.
