Hello all, 1st post here. I have this 1996 Lumina that wont start, no starter engagement, no solenoid clicking, all lights work, checked battery cables, etc. Jumped starter at solenoid with ign. switch on, it will run a few seconds and then die. Can repeat over and over. When ign. switch is turned to the on position, fuel pump does run, security light blinks, but I'm not sure if it didn't allways do that. Waited a few minutes and tried spare key, no luck there either. Read a few old posts about Passkey problems, sounds like this could be the issue but I would like some confirmation first. Would be nice if there was an easy way to disable it, after all, at this point, if someone stole it, they would probably be doing me a favor
Thanks, Steve |

Re: 1996 Lumina no start...Passkey??
Welcome Aboard!
The SECURITY light should blink for about 3-5 seconds, then turn off. If it continues to blink, the VATS system is not detecting the proper ignition key resistance. You can find some more information here: VATS System

It does continue to blink, so I guess I'll start tearing the column apart to get at that lock cylinder

I have confirmation on the bad lock cylinder, took it out and sure enough, one of the two white wires is broken. Thanks for the help.
