Bewildered

Anyone have this problem before. I have a '98 Z71 with 5.7 engine. About once a week I see a stain where anti freeze/water has leaked out. It's not much maybe cover an area the size of a trash can lid, and it's not really a puddle but a mark that shows something has leaked out. I've looked on top and under and can't find where this could be coming from.

Re: Bewildered

Check the water pump. On the bottom there is a seep hole. If you see a stain it is starting to leak.

Re: Bewildered

Front or rear of engine?
Coolant or just water?
On the hard to find leaks they make a coolant dye to put in the coolant and with the yellow glasses and light you can see where it is leaking.

Re: Bewildered

They also sell a coolant pressure tester where you can put the cooling system under pressure and you just watch for your leak...i dont know if they rent them but they do save alot of time

Re: Bewildered

Thanks for the ideas, I will try the dye first and see what happens. I believe it to be coolant/water that I am finding. It appears to be toward the rear of the engine which is why I really haven't looked in the area of the water pump, but it could be running down the bottom of the engine as my drive is up hill slightly.

Re: Bewildered

Are you losing coolant from rad?
Make sure it is not AC drain water.

If on back of engine check upper intake and heater hoses.

Re: Bewildered

The heater hose that plugs into the manifold top front has been known to leak and run back the engine then off the rear.
