I Got My Car Back!!!
Today is a great day. Picked my car up from the body shop today. It looks great. Cant even tell I got in a wreck. Sorry I didn't post any pics of the wreck damage, I couldn't bare to look at it, lol. Anyways heres a summary:
New Side mirror 168$ Stock fender (from another civic) 40$ Installation, Door Repair and Paint 640$ All in all around 800$ Anybody have any tips on how to match the paint better? The fender and door are a little shinier than the rest of the body. I have Meguiars Wax and Polish, which I'll probably end up using...Thanx for any help! |

Yeah, should have went to a better body shop.
Only real solution is getting the whole car painted... at the same time! :smoka:

Well, no s**t. I'm asking if there's any way I can blend them as good as possible. You can't really tell unless you look for it. I knew the paint wouldn't match completely. I'm just trying to get the best results. I don't think going to a better body shop would have helped. They did exactly what I asked for at the best price out of 6 other shops. I can't afford to paint the whole car either. Nevermind....lol

Yep, meguiars wax i think is the best, altough there are some other paint compounds that can help. There was this one... made by 3M, its a small grey bottle with white liquid, it works really well in making the old paint shiny. Sorry i dont remember the exact name of it... Get a buffer tough, from wal mart or something, and buff the hell out of the old paint. Do it a few times, wiht a lot of wax and buffing you will manage to bring the old paint to a shine.

no wasn't really necessary. the guy at the shop said he did a little bit of blending work with the clear coat. i forgot that i hadn't washed the car in awhile when i took it up there. so i was comparing clean/new paint to dirty/old paint. once i cleaned the car it made a siginicant difference. then i waxed and polished and i couldn't even tell anymore. the hood is still off pretty bad (becaused my hood is the most faded part on my car) but im getting a carbon fiber one so it doesn't bother me too much. i will probably end up repainting the car in the future anyways. im just glad my car doesnt look like a POS like it did for a week after i got in the accident. now i get to work on modifications again ;D

As I was saying before you jumped all over me - you should have went to a better shop...
The reason for that would be they would blend in to your existing paint - which you just mentioned - so then the above statement of going to a better paint shop wouldnt be needed... duhhey :finger:

Going to a good body shop is a good thing in the long run, i got into a fender bender and took it to a shop out here and the guy blended everything to a showroom look.
But oh well as long as you got everything how you want it with the wax and polish horray. And its good to see you have your car back. |
