If you just changed oil and it's still on ad some "Lucas" oil treatment and it will turn it off. The sensor triggers when oil pressure is low. The lucas will raise the pressure while making the oil thicker.

What year is your lumina - if its a newer lumina, its not the oil pressure. The Change Oil Soon telltale is for useable oil life based on mileage. The indicator has to be reset.

KOEO (Key on engine off), press your accelerator pedal to the floor three times (the Change Oil Soon light should flash (IIRC)) turn the key off - it should reset itself.

Look. Not knowing what you are talking about is one thing. We all gotta learn. But throwing out ridiculous ideas as if you know what you're talking about when people need help is careless. Stick around and learn, but try to restrain yourself. Please.

Re: light reads = change oil soon

Yes the light needs to be reset after the oil change... car off/ ignition on... gas pedal 3 times ..turn off.. easy as that ... trust is the key word here... call yer local quik change place or yer dealer and ask them... I GUARANTEE they will tell you the same thing as I have along with (manny boy and Jeffco) Ive done mine several times...NEVER FAILS... Oh and Terry... I would trust the guys who know what they're talking about over someone who just Joined... NO Offense....

Good Luck

I have a '99 Lumina. Manny boy is right. In my owners manual it says exactly what he said. Just make sure you press the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. If you do it too slow it won't work. Be patient. You may have to try a couple of times.

Lucas Oil for a change oil soon light.

Hey Daghara, Jeff's a moderator and can ban you, you potty mouthed little punk. All he was doing was straightening you out. A low oil pressure light is way different than change oil soon. Read posts thoroughly before you make suggestions. Those of us on here with high post counts know what we're talking about...you... not so much.

Re: light reads = change oil soon

I gotta ask the same thing that spdfrk1990 asked but never got a response to... Is it normal for the CHG OIL SOON light to come on when the car is started then go off after a minute or so? I did the reset procedure but it still comes on at startup then goes off after about a minute. thanks

Yeah, that is normal. I have a 97 Lumina that will do that when it is getting close to an oil change. It will do that for about two weeks before going to a steady on. Once changed, just reset the light like described above and your good to go again. Of course, as far as having already done the reset procedure and it is still coming on, I have never had that happen.
