1967 283 chevy engine breather ?

I have a 1967 283 chevy engine in my 57 chevy and had a question about the engine breather in the rear of the engine. I think these were typically vented with a hose connected to the exhaust. I have since installed a pcv valve between the base of the carb and the vent and it seems to run fine that way.
My question is what would be the best way to vent the engine, with a pvc valve or ?.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Al

With the pcv on there the vent pipe is no longer needed, unless you have excess blowby.

So are you saying, keep the pcv valve setup.

Thanks

If you have it set up, yes, but the vent tube set up must be blocked off for the pcv system to work as designed.

The '67 blocks should have had those funky canisters under the intake manifold. Which always tended to get sludged up beyond belief. These were an improvement over the road draft tubes, not sure what the cut off date was for those, maybe 1961.

I think that you'll be ok with the PVC system too. Like Maxwedge says, block off anything that is open on the back of the manifold.

On a '67 327 that I worked on way back in the day, the PCV valve attached to the back of the block near the distributor (where the old vent tube used to be), it also had that sludgemagnet canister. The PCV setup was factory.
