1998 Chevy Malibu Gas Gauge Reversal
I own a 1998 Malibu w/ 105,000 miles. V6 engine. Approxamently three months ago, I left for work one day and noticed that the gas gauge had spun around 360 degrees, and the needle was catching on the rest as it tried to move. I was able to manually reposition the needle, but that requires disasembly of the dash.
This morning I replaced the staerter in the parking lot of my dorm (pain in the A$$), and when I got into the car, the gauge was again flipped around. Whenever I do any electrical or related work, I always disconnect the battery first. Now that I think about it, I might have wired some lights the first time that this happened. Does anyone know what causes this problem? Any easy way, or proper way, to fix the gauge? |

thanks, I will try the paper clip trick instead of removing the dash this time. Who the hell designed this system?

The paper clip worked like a charm. Thanks for the information.
