engine rpm and tire rpm question
Why doesnt engine rpm transalte into tire rpm ? Your engine might be cruising away at 5000rpm but your only doing 30mph where do all the engine revolutions go ? Is something slipping (assuming the tires arent) ? Do you understand what i mean ?

Wow.
OK. In order to translate crank shaft rotation into wheel rotation drive is first transmitted through a variety of geared mechanisms, usualy consisting of a gear box and differential. These change both rotational speed and rotational torque to both make better use of the engines power out put, and to direct in the right direction. Or, You could just goto www.howstuffworks.com and look up "gears". Or better yet buy a lego technics set with some gears in it, and have a play.
