1998 Grand Voyager Brake/Rotor replacement

Does anyone have instructions on how to replace the front brakes and rotors on a 1998 Grand Voyager? I tried to stop yesterday and the brake pedel hit the floor. I'm making a crunching sound when I try to stop..

Any help would be appreciated.

Haynes manual is good for most basic repairs, if she is grinding then rotors are probably scored and if brake pedal goes to the floor (really) I would check brake fluid in master cylinder and if that is good pray that the master cylinder does not need replacing.

The Haynes has all you need to know on the R&R of pads and disc (rotor) including pictures. This is a pretty straight forward operation. Remove wheels, remove the brake caliper (if replacing rotors) which are held by two hex head bolts (note how the pad sit in the caliper as the first time I did this it was a real PITA as I did not pay attention to how the pads were retained in the caliper), seat the piston (I use a "C"clamp) and put all back together. If also replacing the rotors, then the caliper is moved out of the way (I use an old coat hanger to hang the caliper from the strut spring) and take the thin washer off of the lug bolt and the rotor will literally fall off (the washer is not required on reassembly). Put the rotor back on the lug bolts nd then put the caliper with pads back in place and tighten down, reinstall wheel, nd one is done.

Re: 1998 Grand Voyager Brake/Rotor replacement

Anther thought. I assume you have front disc and rear drum brakes, and if I am correct, your problem might be a bad wheel cylinder (leaking). On my'96 I had this intermittent grinding sound from the rear drum brakes, noise would be there when I first started braking and go away after several brake applications. I pulled the rear wheels and the brake drums (had to beat them off) and found a leaking wheel cylinder that was contaminating the brake drum (picking up dirt) and several rake applications would clean the drum. i replaced the wheel cylinders 9(f one was bad, how long before the other) cleaned the drums and that cured the problem. I mention this because worn disc pads will generally give a squealing noise when the wear indicator meets the rotor. Also the master cylinder reservoir is in engine compartment, drivers side attached to the power brake booster (white plastic and may have a long curved neck with a screw on, yellow cap attached). Again, all explained in the Haynes manual.

Go to autozone.com IT has the step by step instructions for replacing pads and rotors along with test for brake system, http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm
