ABS Cruise Problems

Hi I have a 99 chevy venture that is going crazy. Ive read some threads but can't find my answer so sorry if this has already been answered. I live in canada with bad winters, when spring came my ABS light would stay on and not go off at all. A guy I know has a Venture and he said its normal because of salt, sand and moisture. He said just unplug the wires wipe them off and it'll be fine. I couldnt find what wires he was talking about and now the abs light doesnt come on but my cruise doesnt work. If i try to use my cruise the ABS light comes on. Also my signal lights have been going fast (just the left front) and my rear brake lights dont always work. Should I just buy all new bulbs for rear and front? ps Im not very mechanical just cheap, so please dumb down instrustions.

thanks
Tim

Re: ABS Cruise Problems

Sounds like the weather proof plug at the back harness to rear tail light 3 up bank has or is shorting. Very typical with these. If you can get away with just cleaning the connections when you uncouple this plug, unless you see a burned (shorted) center, black ground wire in the harness at this plug, you can then smear some dielectric grease on the each of the male-female connections in this plug. If that does not fix it, there is a definite short and needs one or both a new harness, rear light assembly. If you go that route, definitely goop silicone caulking on the plug to prevent this poor design/placement of this plug (in the direct drain path of water, etc in the rear hatch) from happening again. Your cruise will then work again. I am surprised that your TCS dash light isn't also on. For a cheaper fix if you definitely have the short at this plug, I have published the way I did it in a previous post where I strip the wire harness, attach connectors to each pin, cut back about 1/2" and expose the prongs in the tailight plug, slip on the connectors from the harness, make sure it works, then goop the silicone on everything. Remember to label the location to the mating plug that you will connect to on each wire of the harness, before stripping them back. Worked like a charm for 2 yrs now and only about $5 in connectors, silicone. If you need more info, you can email me directly at [email protected]. Either way, let the forum know what worked. Good luck.
