Question Service Vechicle Soon/ABS/Trac Off

I have a 2001 Intrigue with 153,000 miles on it. For the most part, it has been running great (I bought it brand new and have kept up with maintance on it) but now I have 3 lights on my dash - SERVICE VECHICLE SOON; ABS; & TRAC OFF. The brakes seem to be working fine, does anyone know what this might be? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

Its more than likely a failed wheel speed sensor, a common problem on these vehicles.

You will need to take the car to a dealership to have it scanned, or some mechanics have the equipment to retrieve the stored codes. Standard code readers will not retrieve ABS codes and you need a Tech II(dealership) or equivalent machine.

Expect to pay somewhere between 50-100 bucks just to have the car scanned.

If its a wheel speed sensor, it requires replacing the entire hub assembly to fix, a pretty easy job, new parts start at 100 and go as high as you want.

Before you spend for the scan, check the wires leading to the wheel hubs. The metal brackets that support them tend to deteriorate and the wires break. If the wires can be spliced back together and insulated with shrink tubing, support them with wire ties and you're good to go. If not then go for the scan and the couple hundred more for the hub.

very common problem for this car. I've a 3.8 and had to change that wheel speed sensor because I barely hit a sidewalk sideways and the sensor went bad it is a good idea to have the car scanned before you do anything, a mechanic without the proper scan tool told me that the whole suspension had to be changed, I went to the dealer, had the car scanned first and they told me about the bad sensor it can be DIY. make sure whoever scan your car that the scantool is tech II capable.
