oil pressure over 110 psi
I have a '95 3.4L camaro engine in my "90 Isuzu Trooper. Love the power boost over the old 2.8L. Anyway, I overheated the other day because I was low on water in my radiator. The next day, I noticed that my oil pressure was pegged over 110 psi.
Added Seafoam to my crank and the pressure came down in about 10 minutes to regular level of 30-55 psi. Latter that day it rose up and down several times to 110. Finally settled back to regular levels for a couple of days then went up to 110 on long road trip and has been stuck there ever since. I swapped gauges and sending units--not the problem. I figure it is my pressure relief valve in my oil pump, but it's hell dropping the tranny/transfer case and pulling the engine just for a new oil pump. I then flushed the engine with gunk to try to get any particles stuck in the pump out, but flush came out clean and no difference. So, today I ran a 5/16" brake line from the idiot light sensor tap and put the other end into my oil fill in my valve covers just to relieve some pressure. Oil pumped like hell into my valve cover but it didn't drop the pressure at all. Is there anything I can try before yanking the engine and replacing the oil pump? I'm open to suggestions. |

Re: oil pressure over 110 psi
wow...didnt know your seals could handle that much rpessure..
not too sure but sounds like theres shit behind (Spring?) for the pressure relief valve.. and tahts keeping it open? not too sure.. but im pretty sure the V6's are supposed to have pretty high oil pressures right? ~80psi or so?

Re: oil pressure over 110 psi
The oil pressure should be 25-45 psi at 1000 rpm and 45-55 psi at 2000 rpm. I just discovered major problems with my front (A frames?). Anyway, since I have to bust out some major rust and will be out of commission for quite a while, I'm just going to go ahead and yank the engine and r&r the oil pump. I can't think of anything else to do anyway. And yes, everyone is surprised that my seals and oil filter haven't blown. Guess that means my seals are in really good shape.
