Question What do your significant others think about your addiction to our hobby?

Hey there fellow hobbyists. I am really curious about what your girlfriends, boyfriends, parents, and wives think about your enthusiasm for this hobby we all share.

My significant other thinks I am obsessed, at times crazy with my hobby. She thinks all the glues and paints have destroyed too many brain cells and I've lost all sense of reality at times while modeling.
She is really great about being supportive and knows it allows me to express myself creatively through certain mediums of modeling. She thinks I should have gone into Transportation design because of my interest in the automotive industry and having worked in the field.

Thumbs up My wife thinks...

I'm crazily obsessed with anything car-related!!! She's right She's come to accept the fact that I enjoy something that keeps me at home and close to my 2 sons. Sometimes she'll even brag about the fact that I correspond with people all over the world. My kids think it's cool

in my case my parents were just p-offed when i first discovered tamiya's TS- spray cans... you can guess the rest... and if you don't get it, here's another clue....fumes... but asides from that the rest of my immediate family thinks its cool... except my sister who's the one that hears all my modelling problems to why i can't fit this part with that and why these rims don't fit on that this car...blah blah blah i think one day she's going to kill me!

<<<<<She, is very supportive and likes what i do and she's very proud that i have started a business from the hobby. It wasn't so long ago that i never told anyone that i did this hobby coz i used to think i would be ridiculed by all my friends for thinking i'm a geek. I don't know why i thought this????

Seems we are very similar. I thought about starting up a resin tanskit type of business before and she was all for it, but I didn't have enough funds to purchase the required equipment and material for the resin casting business. I'm still considering making certain vehicles, but I'd rather build the kits to order for now.

I have also been embarassed to tell people about my hobby-still am today at times. I still get strange looks or remarks from others that I meet that have no interest in this hobby. I get things like, " aren't you a little old to play with little cars? Don't you go out and club or party"? I thought it was kinda "geeky" at first, but I don't care so much anymore because when they see how detailed and well put together some of the stuff is. They become speechless. Then they'll have a newfound respect for the hobby.

lol, my gurl does too.
But she actually has built a couple models. She finished her first one about 3 months ago, a VW bug. And now she's working on a Chevy pickup. And she stole one of my ITRs.

My friends thought I was CrAzY!!!!!! They said, "that's so eassy!!!" Then they gave it a shot, then started bowing at me, once they figured out how much time and work you have to put in it to make it look good!! But a bunch of my friends never tried it, but some of um bought a Revell ITR, and got fustrated so they gave up after that! So currently, only 2 of my friends are actually building.

My parents, well my dad's OK with it, he used to build cars when he was younger, but my mom, she hates it when I get another car, or some supplies! My grandpa also scolds me, always saying "You too old to play with toys!"

Me wife thinks building models is for kids even though she has watched me build about 5 different kits

I wonder if the hobby store will trade the wife for a couple of kits? Maybe even one kit.......*sigh* I would even take a tube of testors glue for her

The wife is really good about it. We both have our own hobbies....mine being cars and models, shes has horses.
The only time she gets a wee bit pissed at me is when i spend alot of money buying kits when i already have plenty to do.
Overall shes happy as she knows it keeps me out of trouble and as i have cut down on drinking and dont smoke shes pretty cool with it.

As for vistors...it turns out to be a great talking point......most people see them and say..."cool, i might buy one of them", then i show them a box thats unmade and they are blown away by whats a box fill of parts being built into some awsome looking kits.
