2000 Isusu Flywheel/Torque Converter
I have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 2WD automatic transmission.g I was driving down the highway around 60mph with no issues. All of the sudden it seemed as I lost all power to the drive train. The engine would still rev up but the car would not accelerate. I immediately stopped the car and turned the engine off. I then tried to restart the engine, with no success. The transmission light is on and the car is in reduced power mode. I then had it towed to the tranny shop that replaced this transmission 8 months ago. The tranny shop stated nothing wrong with the transmission and that the timing belt is broke. I then towed the car to my house, pulled the timing belt covers off and the timing belt is not broke. We tried to turn the car over, but the crankshaft is not turning but you can hear the starter working fine. Is this possible a broken flywheel, torque converter issue?

Re: 2000 Isusu Flywheel/Torque Converter
Yes, There is oil. I pulled the access cover to view the flywheel last night. The flywheel turns by hand while the flywheel bolts to crankshaft stay still. It appears the flywheel is broken. Are these flywheels built to separate outside from inside if a weld breaks?

Re: 2000 Isusu Flywheel/Torque Converter
If I can remember correctly, the flywheel bolts to the crank. The torque converter is bolted to the flywheel and is what seprates the crank from the tranny main shaft. Sounds to me like the problem is somewhere in there. IMO most likely the torque converter.

Re: 2000 Isusu Flywheel/Torque Converter
Guy's This is good information. How could I prove that they forgot to put one or both of the pins in?

Eh, automatics don't have flywheels. They have flexplates or drive plates.
/is a stickler for using correct terminology. BTW, I've seen this same thing happen before on Ford 2.9L V-6 where the center of the flexplate breaks. I discovered there are two different kinds of flexplates for this vehicle. One that has a spot welded hub in the center and one that is one big piece. I replaced the spot welded POS with the one piece and everything is good. |

www.myisuzuparts.com HOW TO PROVE? insist on being there when they take it out. get educated (see isuzu parts site), talk authoritatively... P.S. PLUS, go to that site and double check that yours actually has these. it was late last night and little time, so check for yourself. //bc

the isuzu factory manual calls it out as a "flywheel" for both manual and AT the isuzu online parts site calls it " flywheel ", and sometimes " gear, ring " for the MT i've always called it a flexplate too, but JLEMOND calls it a flywheel which is good enough for me ... since he's probably seen and worked on and sold more of these things than all the people combined who have ever posted on this forum. besides, we all know what we are talking about. ontheotherhand... //bc
