Unhappy Weird hissing noise from back end

Hello All
I purcahsed a 1992 Grand Marquis back in October and since then had nothing but problems with it. Since Ive owned it I have replaced the ALt. twice, the starter (which is on its way out again) and just yest. the fuel pump and all the wiring! Now that I have the car back Ive been hearing a weird hissing noise from the back end like an air leak or somthing and I cant figure out where its coming from!! Not to mention thats the starter is giving me trouble again! Does anyone have any advice, this car is driving me crazy!!!

Thnks!!

Are you certain it's not an exhaust sound? By the way, some Fuel Pumps DO make strange sounds!! Is it a MOTORCRAFT Part or aftermarket? Some of the CARTER's are noisy. MB

not sure what the part is but prior to having it installed there were no sounds like that. I know when I turn the key into the on postion before starting it you can here the pump priming itself but then the noise stops. When you start the car the noise repairs and a countious sound until the car is turned off again.

Re: Weird hissing noise from back end

As to alternators and starters, you might do yourself a favor by finding a local starter/alternator shop. I found one here in Texas and they fix what's wrong INSIDE the alternator rather than just selling you a new one, which they did for me once. That saved me at least $100. They also gave me a 20-30 minute explanation of what makes a good alternator and how the battery interacts with all that. The aftermarket alternators always go out in about 2 years when I put them on, so the next time I have to replace it I'm taking it to them. They have an alternator in one vehicle that's been running 14 years without a problem.
