ticking/rattling sound

Hello. I have been trying to search all day for the answer to this problem with no luck. I have a 99 K2500 4x4 crew cab with a 5.7. I had the engine replaced last year and have about 11K on it now. The place that put it in did a lot of shady work that I had to correct. Well ever since then it has never ran right. The newest thing is when I pull out from a dead stop there was this ticking/rattling sound that would go away when it shifted. It would also make this sound when I was going up a steep hill and it down shifted. I took it to a tranny guy and they said the tranny was great with no problems. So I took it to another garage to check the cat and that was fine but he did notice a miss. So I changed all the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil. Found the coil wire was burnt on the inside. After I changed all that the SES light came on. I hooked up my OBD II and got the standard P1345 I tried to erase the codes but the light kept coming back on. It would run great with no hesitation, so I took it on a long 400 mile drive and it ran great the whole way, maybe a little sluggish on the hills.

Last night I noticed that it would make the sound when I reved it to about 1500 rpm. I could not tell where it was coming from. Then this afternon I started it and it now does it as soon as I start it. It will then go away when I rev it hard. Could it be pinging due to the dizzy being a tooth or two off? Any help would be great. I am trying to sell this truck and hard to sell it with a SES light on.

Re: ticking/rattling sound

Any ideas? The noise seems to be coming from the tranny area. Maybe the trq convertor.

make sure the torque convertor bolts and cover are tight and while you are under there look for electrical plugs that arent plugged in

Re: ticking/rattling sound

Check your rockers and valve heads. I had one that the valve sleeve had broke off and would vibrate and rattle. Also check your flywheel for cracks
