Quick Question What Size fuel Tank in 99 I may be getting bad mileage

Sorry Guys I am at work my owners manual is at home I am trying to figure out my mileage. What size tank in the 99 intrigue. It seems I am getting real bad gas mileage since I had my resonator replaced with a straight pipe. I believe it was the way it was installed. The installer shrunk the front of the new pipe so it would fit inside over the short original pipe and he expanded the rear of the pipe so it would fit over the original pipe by doing this I believe he created a major restriction in the exhaust system. I believe what he should have done was expanded the new pipe to fit over the outside vs. on the inside. What are your thoughts?

Re: Quick Question What Size fuel Tank in 99 I may be getting bad mileage

I found all the info

Fuel Tank 18 gallons or 68 liters

Mileage 19mpg/30mpg

Seems I am getting half of the above mileage

I have to believe the exhaust system is restricted

I would check your owner's manual to make sure. I believe my tank size is only 17 gallons. It doesnt make sense that different Intrigues would have a different tank size. Im not sure where you got those facts, but check your owners manual to make sure.

One of us is wrong, theres a good possibility its me, Ill check later and we'll meet back here haha.

You are figuring your mileage correctly right? because in reality the size of your gas tank should have nothing to do with gas mileage.

You fill up, reset your trip meter and drive, then fill up again, and divide the mileage on your trip meter by the amount of gas you just put in the tank. I just pulled 36mpg on a 50 mi.highway cruise at 65 last night, with the defrost on, but Im not sure if that was a fluke or not, I didnt do anything different from what I normally do.

Based on a 17-gallon tank I just got 15.44 miles to the gallon. Anyway something is not Wright here. I did take the car back and had the exhaust pipe re-done there should be no obstruction now. I will fill the tank and give it another try.

Rolm: As littlehoov mentinoed, the size of the tank has nothing to do with the gas mileage. Take the miles driven between fill ups and divide by the gallons of gas pumped. What was your gas mileage before the new resonator?

I fiiled up the tank cost me $45 Canadian or 42.75. I will monitor the KMs via the trip odometer. I will say one thing once the exhaust pipe was repaired properly the engine has a lot more juice. Will keep you posted.

Try replacing the gas cap, too.

What difference Now that the exhaust pipe was fixed properly the restriction is gone the power and engine runs as it did before the F'up exhaust. I also changed the air filter it looked a bit dirty. Will keep you posted.
