I just picked up a '87 ltd crown vic, 57k orig. miles, 302-5.0 for 550.00! I want to put a posi rear end in it and maybe some gears for now.. i don't know much about these cars so im turning to you guys for some help, i was talkin to summit and they suggested 373 gears, would that be a good start? i would like to find a complete posi rear end b/c i don't wanna mess around inside the pumpkin lol.. the only thing thats really wrong in the car is that only 1 window goes down, i called around local junkyards and found some motors, 25 bucks each is that high? what's gas mileage like on these cars? i didn't get a book with the car either.. anyways thanks for the help

Re: Just got a '87.. some questions
Gas milage? I had an 87 Crown Vic with 5.0 and overdrive. These cars didn't get gas milage...lol. Highway driving MPG betwen 16-19. City...9 maybe. In my opinion the 5.0 was too small a motor for such a heavy car.

Re: Just got a '87.. some questions
The 87 crown vic should have only come with the 351. the stock 5.0 was too weak(small) for the weight of the car.
The 4.6 is a way better engine than the old 5.0. The 5.0 stock ran outta power at around 4500rpm. The whole package was lazy..at least from my exparience. My 2003 4.6 winds up to 5700 rpms and has amazing throttle response. I get 24mpg in my 2003 Crown Vic. on the highway. Power and efficiency. I'm sold on the 4.6 Last edited by pollenjesus; 08-01-2007 at 09:16 PM. |
