93 Deville problems
A co worker of mine just gave me his 93 Deville with 211,000 miles on it. I have a few questions about it. the radio doesnt work at all. the power anntenna wont even come up. it will display the time but wont play any music. Has anyone had this problem? How do you get the dash apart to replace the radio? Another thing is it is very noisy and leaks coolant so i hope its just the water pump and nothing else. it also idles really rough and smells gassy when idling. any help would be great thanks

I'm not sure about the radio, unless it's just dead??? That's strange.
My '93 Deville was very noisy and it was a bad water pump. Mine wasn't leaking though. It's a real pain to change, so if you're not a good mechanic, I'd have a shop do it. The rough idle could be a number of things. With that many miles, when was the last time it had a tune up?

I am not sure of when the last tune up was. The kid that gave it to me left for oregon today so i wont be able to ask him. He had just bought it in October '06 and just paid it of on 7-6-07 and gave it to me today for free with a new starter and alt.
About the water pump i am pretty good with that kind of stuff but i do have a buddy with a hoist and all the goodies so i could always take it out to his shop and do it there for a small fee. Another thing i have noticed is a light that is on that say service sss. what is sss? Did you know how to remove the dash or how to get the radio out at all?

I'd at least take a look at the condition of the plugs, cap and rotor to see if they need replacing.
You don't need a lift to change the water pump, but I will advise you to only use a GM water pump. I've heard of people buying rebuilt 4.9 water pumps and they fail after a year. The GM one is around $85, but once you change it, you won't want to do it again for a long time, so a new one is the way to go! I'll have to check my manual for the dash removal and get back to you. The SSS is "Speed Sensitive Suspension". Basically, there is something wrong with the suspension system. It's probably a bad shock, strut or sensor.
