Latest progress on my street car.

Well today I finished welding in my Wolfe 10-point ms roll cage. The cage is legal to 8.50 seconds in the 1/4 mile. I've got pictures of the cage just before I finished it. I added 1 bar above the windsheild and 2 bars going from the main hoop thrue the floor to the subframes after taking the pics. Also last week I installed a QA1 k-member, along with new power steering rack & pinion, pump, hoses, tie rod ends, and ball joints.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.

David,

Nice work man! Your sticking with the F303 for the turbo, right? What tubing are you using? Are you using a MIG to install?

Time to change your sig

Re: Latest progress on my street car.

Yep keeping the F303 and 1.6 rr's for the turbo. The tubing is just mild steel. Its the Wolfe Racecraft 10-point cage kit for a fox coupe. I payed the extra bucks to get it jig notched so I could just hold & weld lol. A few things I would have liked to do different but overall its not bad for my first roll cage install. Also yes its just mig welded in there. I bought a Hobart Handler 140 I beleive it is. Good enough for mild tubing and sheet metal (mini-tub), chassis work. I'm gonna wait to get the turbo installed before I change my sig. Dont wanna jinx myself . Turbo kit shoud be here any day now.
Thanks for the props Tony!

Re: Latest progress on my street car.

Well I've got some more pics, just gotta upload them.
But, I finished painting the roll cage today, got the carpet back in, and the fuel cell back out. I'm having aluminum -AN fittings TIG welded to the fuel cell. The bulkhead fittings with the nylon washers I used last year leaked bad. Also after installing the QA1 k-member and reusing the stock control arms the front tires are way forward. So far that when I turn the wheel all the way they actually hit the front of the wheel well. To hell with that, QA1 tubular control arms and Strange coil-overs are in the mail. B&G called me last Friday and said they shipped my turbo kit so it should be getting here this week. I've been waiting 11 weeks for it, they told me it should take 5-8 weeks. But, at the same time I do understand that this was a custom build, they didnt have to car to work off of, they just had my measurements lol. They charged me pretty much their regular price too so I cant complain. Nobody else will have a kit like mine lol. 700rwtq @ 3500rpms here we come! (I hope )

Re: Latest progress on my street car.

It should be all in by 3500-3700rpms. I'd say if I made 485rwtq with the blower and blown headgaskets I should be pushing another 200 easy with the larger turbo. The numbers in my sig where actually made with 11psi, lost 3psi when the hg's blew. Also at that time I had the boost guage plumbed to the carb hat so the motor may have been seeing a little less than the guage showed. I ordered the wastegate with a .8bar spring which is advertised to hold 11.6psi. I figure I'll probably see 12psi or so on the boost/vacuum guage (plumbed to the intake). Also I added an air/air intercooler this time so cooler IAT's will help as well.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.

Well good and bad news. The motor mounts finally got here, thursday. They where supposed to be here with the turbo kit last week but they didnt ship them for some reason! Also I still have not recieved my silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps for the cold side plumbing! I also have to send the boost ref power valve in my carb back to CSU to change the seal. The manufacturer CSU had been buying pv's from changed material on them and they have been tearing under boost. This causes you to go lean, the power valve doesnt work when the seal is torn. Also I have to get an appointment to get the car aligned because I installed a new rack & pinion, tie rod ends, ball joints, k-member, control arms, coil-overs, and caster camber plates. So basically the front of the car is all out of whack right now.

I do have the motor set down in the car now, its a little after 2pm and the motor mounts got here just a few hours ago. Bad news here is I have to order an aftermarket tranny dipstick, the stock one wontn work because the downpipe has to go right where the dipstick is. So basically I wont get the car on the road this weekend like I had hoped! Damn if people would just ship what they are supposed to ship when they are supposed to ship it I might have been able to get the car going, take it easy on the power valve and get to the alignment shop this week, then overnight the powervalve and have it overnighted back. Then I could have made my deadline.

There is alwaysnext week I guess...

I thought about that, I'm just tired of screwing with tie rod ends lol.

Should get new pics up in a day or so.
