'93 Voyageur transmission troubles
will shift into 1st but only moves about 50 yards before it begins to act like its in neutral again. If i disconnect and re-connect the battery it will do the same over again. Have reverse. Tranny fluid is burnt. Four speed, 3.3L. No codes. If I put a used one in do I have to change anything electrical or just the transaxl itself? Please help!

Uh oh. Burnt fluid, plus slipping (going into Neutral) means big trouble.
There's a slight chance it's just because the trans fliter is clogged, but a very good chance that it's burned out. The troubles of putting in a used one depend on which year of used trans you use. You may have fewer headaches by getting the existing trans rebuilt by someone who knows the updates to make. In either case, you will also need a rebuilt torque converter, flush the trans cooler lines, and reflash the TCM. |

Re: '93 Voyageur transmission troubles
Don't waste your time putting in a used one. First off, you're going to have a hard time even finding one, because they were all bad. Second, why go to all that trouble to put in a tranny that is going to let you down in the near future?

Re: '93 Voyageur transmission troubles
Well, the problem being finances right now I have no choice but to try. Realistically I can get a new/used vehicle a month from now but I need to get to work for now and am extremely limited in the funds. The wrecker here is awesome and there is usually about three or four of the same year/model, the poor van is probably 40% parts from there as it is. I'm going to give it a shot so thanks for the input and I'll post the results. If anybody else has anything I should keep an eye out for, in the process, please le me know. Thanks for the prompt responses.

Re: '93 Voyageur transmission troubles
So there was three 93 3.3's there but all three of them I didn't much care for the colour of the fluid. Too much work for the gamble involved. So I picked up a used car guide and found a '94 that runs great and a healthy transmission. The only catch being the water pump is shot. Fortunately he already bought the parts and just never had time to fix it. So its an easy fix and a cheap vehicle to last me the month I need.
