the doors of my 99 taurus wagon are closed but that door open red light remains on. I'll drive, hit a bump and magic, the light goes off and the doors lock. Whats going on with this door gremlin?

This seems to be a rather well-understood phenomena with the Taurus door pin switch. Use the search engine on the Taurus Forum main page ("Search this Forum") and search for "door ajar" - you'll get a lot of useful hits, including many with your answer.
