Removing Drive shafts 99 regal GS
How do you remove the drive shafts from the trans axle?
I have the shaft out of the wheel hub assy. Just need to get the shafts out of the tranny so I can lift my motor out. |

Pry gently between the final drive housing and the surface of the inner cv joint, they will pop out and some fluid will too.

Yeah tell me about that Shep. Technically, the pan should be dropped and ATF drained before axle shaft and tranny removal.

Re: Removing Drive shafts 99 regal GS
Sounds easy enough.
I just didn't want to start prying on them untl I knew what I was doing, so I didn't break something. So far removal of everthing else hasn't been to much of a bear. I need to yank the engine because of a cracked piston. After removing the heads I found #1 cylinder had a broken piece off the top of the piston. Thanks for the advice. |

Re: Removing Drive shafts 99 regal GS
Bummer!!
Is this on a stock L67 SII 3800 or modded? Unusual but I guess it is possible. What grade gas were you running? Flame front collisions due to poor grade fuel or excessive knock retard will definitely destroy a piston(s). Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Re: Removing Drive shafts 99 regal GS
Just a stock SII 3800 with SC.
I believe you are correct about the gas. I usually run the premium but skimped out a few times with these high prices. Definately had to be from KR. If you run regular in these things they ping way too much. Spend the extra for premium so you don't spend it on an engine later. It has about 155,000 hard miles on it if youy know what I mean. I didn't baby this engine at all. Thats what a GS is for isn't it? I 'd like to put some mods in, but dam, that stuff doesn't come cheap. I'll keep you guys posted on progress. Thanks. |
