Fairly big fan of Zechs Merquise and Treize Kushrenada. Those guys knew how to run a quasi-fascist military government with style and make people love them for it.

Too bad they went completely mad. Gotta love Zechs's thinking.

"I'm going to blow up the Earth, for it's own good."

But then, you are aware of the fact that Gundam Wing is not the original Gundam series, right? Mobile Suit Gundam (also known as 0079) is in fact the original Gundam series dating back to 1979.

Gundam Wing didn't come around until 1996.

Re: Gundam Wing

I used to watch that show years ago. My favorites were Heero and Duo. It's been so long since i've watched it though. Mobile suit gundam i saw a couple of times, but never really got into it.

It was alright, I remember when it came on after DBZ on Cartoon Network years ago. The only thing I really remember anybody liking about it was at 11 every single night they'd replay every episode un-edited and everybody loved it.

Re: Gundam Wing

Yeah in the edited version they didn't even say "kill" which took away from the most powerful line in the series "Omane korosu" (I'll kill you). It sets the story line for everything after.

Honestly, vicious, the story of Gundam Wing didn't begin until the OZ takeover of the Earthsphere Alliance.

The Heero/Relena story is tertiary to the political machinations of Treize Kushrenada and his rivalry with Zechs Merquise.

The most interesting thing that Masashi Ikeda did was to take the classical Garma Zabi/Char Aznable relationship and move Garma from the role of naive stepping stone to mental equal. Instead of Char manipulating Garma's ignorance to further himself, you have Zechs and Treize sparring politically and militarily throughout the series.

The Gundam pilots, intriguingly enough, are little more than pawns on the chessboard of this new Zeonic pair.

You mean there's always a "Char" in the Gundams you've seen. Remember.

Char Aznable, 1979

Zechs Merquise, 1995

I agree with you 95% of the time but this one I have to go against the grain...

The series is based around human relations and adaption to new surroundings and forced comradery. Despite the fact that Zechs and Treize going at it, they still admire each other and the same falls into line with Wufei and Treize. You have Duo and Heero with their relationship as well as Trowa and Quatre. Throw in that circus chick and Reelena and you have the main females, but then that freaky eye brow bitch popped up later on too.

Human relations, Gainax has done well with it over the years... so why shouldn't the producers of the Gundam series try it?
