2007 Odyssey Transmission Engage Delay?

We recently purchased an '07 Odyssey EX since it is simply the best minivan on the market. It replaced a '00 Chevy Venture which was on its last legs at 98k mi. Let's just say it is a quantum leap over the Venture and we love it.

Ok so here is my question. When you put the vehicle in drive there seems to be a slight delay before it engages followed by a subtle noise from the transmission when does engage. The noise sounds like an actuator or something similar. I have not compared this with other vans but was curious if this is normal. Obviously this it is under warranty, but before I visit the dealership I was wondering if this is normal or if an adjustment needs to be made.

Thanks for any info.

my 03 Ody behaves the same as what you describe... there seems to be like a 2-3 seconds delay before it engages. Don't know whether it's normal but it hasn't been a problem so far on mine... 84k kilometers and hopefully it won't be !

Smile Re: 2007 Odyssey Transmission Engage Delay?

I went to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle to have this symptom looked at. I must say I was impressed by the sevice department customer service. Rather than taking my vehicle and calling me later with a diagnosis they had the Service Foreman come out and look at it while I was still there. We tested out another new '07 Odyssey on the lot and it acted the same. My time there was about 20min. According to the Foreman the noise is a servo action in the transmission and the delay is normal. I am satisfied with this diagnosis and am no longer concerned.

If you are still concerned about the delay in engagement there is a software update available at your dealership to reduce the delay time.
