Question Is a c4 corvette engine faster than a 1995 z28 camaro?

My friend knows someone who installed a c4 corvette engine in there 1995 z28 camaro, does this mean it has more horsepower and is faster than it was before?

Re: Is a c4 corvette engine faster than a 1995 z28 camaro?

only major differences between the vette and f-body LT1 (someone correct me if im wrong) are the mains and the heads. The vette engine has 4 bolt mains while the f-body engine has 2 bolt mains. The heads on the vette engine are made of alluminum vs. the f-body's iron. The f-body got the different components to help keep the cost down. I believe the LT1 made more power in the vette because of a less restrictive exhaust system. Putting a vette engine in an f-body chassis eliminates that gain. the cam in the vette version may be different but im not sure. i don't think putting a vette LT1 into a LT1 f-body would make it faster, just maybe more durable with the 4 bolt mains and a tad lighter with the alluminum heads. Also remember that GM always lets the vette have top advertized HP honors when in reality, the f-body makes close to the same amount of power with the same engine.

Your biggest differences in the 2 vehicles are 1). weight, Corvette is lighter. 2) heads, alum. vs iron 3) the air inlet tube in the F body is restrictive (done on purpose to keep the F body slower than the Vette)

Correction, the LT1 heads for the f-bodies are also aluminum. Iron block, aluminum heads. I believe the heads for the LT1 Impalas were iron though.

And one of the biggest differences is the exhaust from the factory. The vette came with true-dual exhaust while the f-bodies came with a y-pipe setup.

Cam size, intake and exhaust aside, the Vette only made 25hp more than the Z28.
