Bonneville totalled by attempted theft!

Just bought the car back in August. Friday night into Saturday morning someone broke into the driver side corner window and destroyed the steering column in an attempt to steal the car. I guess when they figured they couldn't get the car they ripped the cd player out of my dash and made a run for it. Between the steering column and the dash the insurance company wants to total or salvage the car. The car probably would have lasted at least 5 more years easily, but now I'm stuck with either a paperweight or a thousand dollars less than what I paid for it less than a year ago. What really burns me is if I had the time I could repair the steering column and possibly the dash too. It feels good to vent. I've got pictures, anyone want to see?

Negotiate with the Ins co. to retain salvage, you make be able to keep the car for a negotiated amount off the total loss settlement.

Re: Bonneville totalled by attempted theft!

I agree that I could salvage the car, but I simply don't have the time and I need a functional car. The bonneville isn't going anywhere without a working steering column. Looks like I'm going to get a beater and leave the nice things for when I get out of the navy.
