Smile Possible Fix for Fuel Pump Issues on GMC Truck

I have had 3 pumps in as many years in my 1988 GMC C2500 Extended Cab and no one seems to be able to come up with the fix. Well a couple of days ago I was speaking to a wrecking yard tech 35+ years in the business and he told me his son had the same problem in his GMC Truck and he has seen this many times over the years with other GMC trucks. He said an average of a pump a year in these trucks with aftermarket pumps.

He told me that the wiring that is running down the steering column can become bad which creates static electricity and since it is connected to the fuel pump gauge, it sends a signal and shuts off the pump in the tank for safety reasons. He replaced the wiring harness running down the steering column from the turn signal switch (Which also has the cruise control on it) and so far over 2 years now it hasn't shut off once. So if anybody has any suggestions to this fix sound off! If not Im going to try and locate a harnes and replace mine. He also said to look for a hard wire from that same switch as in crusty or an overheated wire that runs down the column to the plug.
