I have a common problem with my caravan 3.3l. I am going to attempt to replace the tensioned. I know that there is a single 15mm nut on the back side. What I would like help on is what is the easiest way to get to that nut? The van is parked in a grassy spot were it broke down. I will be working in the grass and probably in the rain. I have access to boards to support a jack, but would rather stay away from the underside of the van.
Is tire removal and plastic wheel well a cavity? Does dodge torque this nut to a high torque that will require a breaker bar or high impact force to loosen it? I need all the help and suggestions I can get on this one. |

Re: serpentine belt tensioner removal
Sorry to say but the easiest way to replace the tensioner is to get the bolt from under the vehicle..

Re: serpentine belt tensioner removal
I would say the same thing. You have to get under the car and reach the nut side of the bolt. Once you get it out and install the new one in, it does not require a lot of torque. Then you need a serpentine belt installation tool that relieves the torque of the tensioner. You can rent it for free from some parts store and you have to do is pay a deposit and you get your money back after you return the tool. Good luck!! I have done this twice.

Re: serpentine belt tensioner removal
...and the critical piece, is to make sure that you position your extensions correctly. I used a deep socket first, a 4-in extension followed up with a 2-in and then the u-joint with the extensions all the way to the ratchet.
