Have seen it done, but wanted to ask/invite others-Le Mans build for next Saturday.

Hope I am not reposting a current thread, but I have not seen one recently. I have noticed in the past that other people will try and build a whole model during a race on tv.

Well the 24 Le Mans is next Saturday and I wanted to try this. Since I have wanted to build a C-6R for a while, I am going to attempt a complete build before the race is over.

So, I picked up the 2005 season winning Revell C6-R #64 Alms winner, driven by Olivier Beretta and Gavin, Magnussen in the GT1 class.

Here are the pics from Corvette racing's site:
http://www.corvetteracing.com/pictures/2006/lemans/

I cannot say if I can complete this, but I really want to try and do it!!! I would think in 24 hours I could accomplish this fairly simple build.

I am planning on stripping the wheels and chrome the second the race starts as well as starting the body. I want to have my first coat of primer on in less then an hour. From there, we shall see.

So, does anyone else seem interested in joining me next weekend for a Le Mans build? I think it would be fun for us all to get involved?! I know that there are other entries from Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, etc.... Those may be harder to come by in a week. Who knows, Maybe a slew of Vette's for the forum?

Thanks for looking.

Jon

That's a very tempting idea and I'd love to join you but the reality is that there's no way I can.

I'll look forward to seeing you try though and I'll be cheering for 'ya!

Re: Have seen it done, but wanted to ask/invite others-Le Mans build for next Saturday.

I've seen a site long time ago where 2-3 modelers get together and build LM cars during the race every year. Don't have the link anymore, but it is possible, some guys were even finished before the race was over. They had bunch of snacks and room full ot supplies, tools, etc, a spray booth they could use, neat setups. Good idea.

I iwsh we could get together but that would not be manageable unfortunately. Still though, I thought it would be fun for some people interested. I will do it regardless because I want to get a break from current projects and do just a simple OOB for once.

Want to participate Alex?!?!?!?

The ACME guys do it every year, I think they meet at Wayne's place and work there as he has a pretty extensive setup.

Good luck w/your Corvette!

A group of ACME members are getting together to watch the race and build LeMans cars at our second annual LeMans Palooza. We allow the model to arrive in primer, and to have parts cleaned up prior to building/painting. We had a blast last year doing it.

Last year's album:
http://public.fotki.com/ACME-IPMS/mo...urs_of_lemans/

This year I'm building a Profil24 Jag E Type Low Drag Coupe from the 1964 LeMans race. I've spent 3.5 hours priming it and getting parts ready. It's a pretty simple curbside, should be no problem finishing it to a high standard and getting some sleep during the race

Our group is meeting in BRE350Z's workshop, I'll be there, also we should have Veyron, Mach I 2003, Po9r1s1che may join us as well, and a couple other non-A/F members. We've got a spray booth, a dehydrator farm, and lots of room to spread out and build. There's a group that meets in Canada every year for the same event.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing that with me/us! That would be so fun to do, I am jealous of that for sure. Unfortunately I do not know anyone in Colorado Springs besides me on the forum or others who could do this with me. But, I would still like to see some participants.

Maybe in spirit I can be there with you guys for the build? Maybe I can have my body primer ready along with parts?

C'mon, anyone wanna join me?!?!?!?! opcorn:

Re: Have seen it done, but wanted to ask/invite others-Le Mans build for next Saturday.

I'd love to, actually. I'll have to go check my LHSs for something that I have paint for. I'd love to do a Porsche since I already have the Gulf blue and orange, but we'll see what they have if anything. I can't make any promises though

Do the ACME folks doing this have internet access at their modeling hideout? It'd be neat if we could, in some way, all sort of chat while we watch LeMans and build our quickies. That way we could all be there together But I'd understand if part of the idea was to get away from this sort of thing all together.

Re: Have seen it done, but wanted to ask/invite others-Le Mans build for next Saturday.

As part of the ACME group I'm building this: (or a GT40 from 1966 Lemans, car #7 chassis number XGT-2, Silver with flat black nose, or both )

Enzoenvy, I used to live in Colorado Springs, nice place. I really miss driving up to the Denver area to visit Colpar Hobbies. They always had a nice selection Tamiya, Fujimi, etc...

Re: Have seen it done, but wanted to ask/invite others-Le Mans build for next Saturda

Well, sounds like we have a couple people wanting to try this then?!

I was thinking about my 360GT LM for the build, but as that is a Renaissance kit/Resin, I could not see myself completing that in 24 hours ,let alone 4 months. I wish I had more to choose from like that Denso Toyota or an old Jag, but the Corvette was available, and so it shall be. Like I said though, I really need to do a simple OOB to get me back into the hobby.

Wish I was near the ACME guys!!!

Re: Have seen it done, but wanted to ask/invite others-Le Mans build for next Saturday.

The ACME LeMans Palooza Central has a photo lightbooth and a good camera, and we'll post on our ACME forum and Fotki account during the race. We can post here as well. We'll have at least 3 ACME members building who are on A/F at least semi-regularly.
