99 Grand am front end noise/vibration and abs light

Hello, I have a problem with my V6 1999 Grand Am. Recently I have started hearing a winding noise in the front end which is accompanied by some vibration. Can feel some vibration on the gas pedal/steering wheel. Also, my ABS and Off Track lights started coming on at the same time. If I turn the car to the right the noise will almost completely disappear. I suspect that one of the front wheel bearing is bad but I am not 100% sure. Noise starts at about 20 MPH and usually the ABS and Off track lights come on shortly after car movement. Any thought on the cause would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jessie

Previous work I had done that does not apply to the problem:
Alternator
Water Pump
Blower motor Resistor
Intake manifold gaskets
and of course brakes, oil and tires

Welcome to AF.

Sure does sound like a wheel speed sensor going bad.

The only way to realy know is to have it scanned with an ABS capable scanner.
You can check the WSS/bearing unit with an Omh meter.

Unplug the connector at the wheel, measuring the resistance( in ohms) acrossed the sensor terminals,
should read around 1k ohms.

Re: 99 Grand am front end noise/vibration and abs light

Thanks for the reply, I changed the driver side wheel bearing hub assy today with no improvement to noise or abs problem. I am thinking now that maybe the alignment is off or something so I might just go get an alignment. As for the abs and trac off light I guess I will need to have that system scanned to. Any other insight would be great.

Thanks,
Jessie

Was it the driver side making the noise?

Did you get the car scanned before replacing the Hub/bearing unit?

After repairs are made the codes will need cleared with a scann tool.

Hope that helps

I had that problem a year ago, I think if I remember correctly it was the wheel hub.

The part that the actual tire sits on, what I remember what the mechanic said was that is where the ABS sensor is. Also it maybe a wheel bearing.
