WIP Profil24 Ferrari 312PB 60 Red Years

Here is my second Ferrari 60 Red Years Group Build model.

I've spent couple of evenings with this kit, and it seems that there is not much to complain about. But the one problem that i found so far was almost unacceptable. The body is made from two parts and in my copy the upper part was 2mm wider than the lower part and their shape didn't match at all. I had to cut the lower part of the body in three parts, add some styrene strips and reshape the sides of the lower part to match the upper prt. The result is good, but in my opinion this is too much work in 100 dollar kit.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the contents of the box.

Body parts, seat and rear spoiler:

Wheels are nicely cast, with minimal flash and no visible pinholes. Tires are rubber like material.

There are lot of small resin body and detail parts. Most of them are very well cast. The roll bar seems a little bit too small in diameter though.

Decals and PE parts seem to be very high quality.

-Niko

i really want a 1/24 PB but i'm partial to the original (non-longtail?) version, particularly the 1972 version. still, i love the PB and will follow this thread closely.

Re: WIP Profil24 Ferrari 312PB 60 Red Years

Cool, I've thought about buying this kit for a while, it'll be good to see it done!

I've got a photo signed by Brian Redman of the 312's at Le Mans in '73 (the year I was born) on the wall that my Bro got for my 30'th birthday. I always wanted a model of the car to go with it. You might just have made up my mind ;-)

CeeElle, you could try the Technomodel 1/43 '72 PB, it's 1/43 but is an awesome full detail super kit. There's some photos of mine on the forum or at patriot-boy.fotki.com

If you wait long enough you might just get a short tail 312PB from Hiro :-)
They haven't announced anything in that way but it's more or less a no brainer for them to come out with it one day. Maybe after the Alfa 33s ....

Wow Niko, I'll follow: I'm waiting mine from Icaro. First look: seems the body is a bit smooth: this car is very crispy, with strong sharp edges. Good the Hiro news, I'll put a full detail aside the Profil curbside. Decals are a great news for me with 3 schemes: I guessed I should have only the ugly green/red car: hoping mine is the same as your.

Jay: do you mean Alfa 33/1-2-3 like Scale Designs stuff (that is a good kit to me) or the street version? I'll pay gold to have those in 1/24, I tried the 1/16 Fujimi in the washing machine at 90° but it lost just a size (something like 1/18 now LOL)

So far you can see the Stradale, the Periscopio and a coupe version if i'm not wrong ( I still have to read that book :-) Not all the open race versions yet but i guess they could follow.....

Funny how personal opinions differ, i like the green/red car most. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the real #16 was on pole and finished second on LM '73.

I finally got the body painted and applied most of the decals. Not much to say, maybe i should have block sanded the body better because there are some parts of the body that look quite uneven. The kit decals were an absolute joy to work with, but the decal guide was not correct for #16.

Superb, Niko. Can't see any fault.
I though to do a PE side (lower part) insthead cut the lower resin in 3 parts, wasn't the real car bare metal there?

I agree with the green: seeing your job seem not bad, I still preferring ever the Ickx red/yellow bomb

OMG they're awesome. This 33 seem very well engineered, the coupe seem to be the TZ, and for the open versions... I have already from other cheap manufacturers Despite I'm not an Alfa's fan those cars are absolutely superb.
