98 Windstar will not start

Hello , it has been some time since I had to ask for your help again and I am hoping that one of the experts here can guide us in the right direction.
We own a 98 WS 6 cyl. had the usual problems like everyone. I was in the hospital and was discharged yesterday, my wife picked me up in our 98 WS. It started and ran good for her all day. When we got home she let me out and shut the van off and when she went back outside to start the van and put it in the garage WELL it only was able to crank but not start at all. The battery is new ( less then 6 months) and the light, radio etc. work. About 2 years ago we had the same problem and I diconnected the battery to reset the computer module and it started right up. This time I went outside this morning and tried to start it and it still would only crank but would not start. I diconnected the battery and waited 1 hour and the same thing will not start. We just reserved a rental for Tuesday (a extra expense that is coming at a bad time). Can anyone give me some clues as what to check for real fast, if I can get it started my wife can drive it to the repair garage.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Wit a no-start issue, you must check the basics.............

Check for spark
Check fuel pressure

Re: 98 Windstar will not start - UPDATE

Just wanted to give an update to this problem. I had AAA pick the van up and brought it to the garage we use. After checking the complete system it came up as a faulty fuel pump, cost about $560-599.00 for labor and part. I also will have them change to fuel filter and the idler belt pulley bearing assmbly and then LOF. So that takes care of our vacation this year BUT after just getting out of the hospital on Sat. this is minor and will be taken care of. The van only has 35K on it so unless the trans goes I should be ok for at least another year ??????

Re: 98 Windstar will not start

Glad you have the problem solved.
Changing the fuel pump involves dropping the fuel tank....
I can think of a lot of things one would rather do just out of the hospital.

If the vehicle is otherwise in good shape.....should be good for a few more years.
I plan to get a few more years out of my '96......as it is still in great shape......at 183K miles.
I am happy with it..........so why change?

98wsng

I have a 95 with over 219,000 on the clock. It's still going strong. The previous owner was very good with maintenance.

Regards

Dan

Re: 98 Windstar will not start - UPDATE

We picked up the van last week, I wanted to wait to make sure it was running okay before I gave this update. The garage did a great job, they put in a Bosch (spelling) fuel pump with a 1 yr. warranty on parts and labor. They also changed the fuel filter and I also had them change the belt idler pulley that had a wobble and squeal plus the lube oil filter. The bill came to ( not counting the rental) $693.00 with tax. With only 35 K on it I guess we will have to keep it for awhile yet as now it is running good. An extra bonus from this repair is my AM radio now also is working good NO STATIC! That is the first time since I bought the van in late 1997 that the AM now is good why??? What would the fuel pump have to do with my AM reception??? Come the fall the garage would like me to do the trans service which we will.

Regards,
Ray

Re: 98 Windstar will not start

Yes, a bad fuel pump can cause radio interference.
