Nissan Alternator Recall for 1997 Maxima
Hi Folks:
I own a 1997 Nissan Maxima SE. It's a fantastic car, but I've been having a few problems with it lately.
After Nissan announced its Alternator Recall I took my car to a nearby Nissan dealer and got my alternator replaced (Sept 2002). Within a couple of days my battery died on me while returning from work.
It first started flashing the ABS and the Airbag lights in the dashboard, showed signs of stalling and then the next day the car just stalled due to the dead battery. I had to get my car towed home and then to the dealer.
The dealer blamed my battery (a 22 month old Die Hard Gold) and recommended replacement. I strongly felt that it was either a bad alternator or a shoddy job that caused it but the dealer wouldn't take any responsibility.
After they replaced (Oct 2002) my old (dead) battery with a new Nissan battery it seemed to run fine, but last night I noticed the ABS and the Airbag lights come on again for a short time.
This morning I took my car to another dealer in the vicinity just to get a second opinion on the problem. They ran diagnostics and couldn't find anything wrong. Now I'm afraid that it will do the same thing again, i.e., start flashing those dashboard lights and subsequently fail, as soon as I drive out of the dealer's parking lot.
I want the experts in this forum to provide some suggestions as to what I should do to resolve this problem once and for all. It clearly appears to be an alternator or some allied problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
skarekat
