97 Taurus temp control

Hi, guys and gals,--searched every thread, but couldn't find problem like mine. The dial control for the hot/cold doesn't seem to work. All other controls are fine, but my problem is I ONLY get heat as opposed to everyone that can't seem to get heat. Figure its the control itself--how do I get the darn panel off to replace it---or do you think it is something else causing the problem? Thanx---later

Re: 97 Taurus temp control

is it HOT everywhere on the dial not just warm? When you turn on AC does it get colder?

I don't think the problem is the panel itself, I think its the door that diverts the airflow over the Heater core.

Doctor, no matter where i turn the control dial the temp remains the same ---always hot---A/C control has no effect--nor does the vent setting--continues to blow hot air no matter what--later--Hammer90

Re: 97 Taurus temp control

then I'm thinking either the dial is disconnected on the back or corroded or the heater core air door is broken or stuck (which is a pain in the ass to look at)

Thanks. I'll try the control first, but one more question ---Is there a special tool to release those spring clips that hold the faceplate for the climate controls. I popped a stereo out of my Explorer once using 6d finish nails, but there has to be an easier way, no? I am a fast carpenter, but only a half-fast mechanic. Later......
