93 Grand Prix..not saying anything.. doesnt need a motor.

Whats up all. I ran into a problem with my 93 Grand Prix (2dr with 3.1Mp) and thought that I may be able to get an answer here. the problem is that the engine won't turn over, and it won't say anything when I try and crank the key. leading up to this, the day before, i replaced the radiator. The only thing is I didn't disconnect the battery during the taking out or reinstalling. what my mechanic thinks is that he needs to reprogram the computer and it will crank right up. I hope there is someone on here with a more experience or that may have had this problem. As of now, the the only way the engine will say anything is if he does something to the starter. When he does this it tries to crank but wont. It gives me that early morning type start like it needs to be given some gas on the pedal to crank. We disconnected the battery and am hoping to reprogram and have it crank. If you know anything about this I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks

hello, does the car have a anti theft device in it?
if it doesnt im sure a flash of the computer should fix it as long as it was working before things should be fine.

By flashing the cpu I'm assumiong you mean to unplug the positive wire and let the car sit. If so, we tried that. we are thinking it something with the iignition switch. Don't know why, but thats what we're thinking. What do you mean flash the computer? The car stated and I was able to park it the day before. Then I went and got a radiator and installed it. After that the problem occurred. Are the fans designated right and left, becasue I remounted them but just put one on one side and one on the other. Maybe they where supposed to go on specific sides. We also looked at the plug on top pf he trans and swapped it with a bettr lookimng plugged but that didnt work wither. Could it be a relay. I just don't see how it could be anything besides the radiator installation because it had just started the day before and right after the installation it wouldn't. Any help would be appreciated.

well a flash is also considerd a reprogram but i dont think that should be totally necassary, considering you only changed the radiator. I dont think it matters what side the fans go on because there is no specific ordering instruction when they are purchased, and the electrical wiring is also the same.there is a fan relay part#mr76 but im not sure if that would keep the car from starting i could only see it being a problem if the fans dont come on but you could try it anyways the relay is 8.99. is the battery fully charged? when you removed the radiator was any wires damaged? did you have any problems with the ignition before at all? before trying anything with the ignition take your vin # to a dealer and get a brand new ignition key sometimes the key is a little worn and getting it copied from your local hardware store would just give a copy of your already worn key. do you have any security system or a chip in your key? also was the battery disconected while you worked on the car?

I didnt' discoonect the battery when i installed the radiator but since then I unhooked for 24 hrs with no change. The starter is covered in oil and what we plan to do now is remove it and put it back on after it has been cleaned. Do you think that will help cause persoonnally I dont think so. Also there was no ignition probs before the radiator was installed cause I had just started the engine the day before with the original radiator in it.

Since you didn't disconnect the battery, it is possible you touched the starter solenoid post and popped a fuseable link. This would cause what you describe.

Sorry not a mechanic just have a lil knowledge so I'm forced to ask what a fuseable link is? and to add we tried and start the car through the starter and it still wouldn't crank. But let me know what and wear the fuseable link is and thanks.

On the starter solenoid, where the main battery cable attaches, there should be a couple of smaller wires that attach there also. They are about 4-6 inches long, and made of an aluminum wire that is thinner than the rest of the harness they supply voltage to. This is so if there is a major short, it will burn there instead of somewhere inaccessable in the harness. When burnt, they will look crinkled, feel soft, and not allow battery voltage to reach the circuit.

^^By the above quote, do you mean you attempted to jump the solenoid with a screwdriver and it still didn't crank?^^
